Amazon Smart Plug
Product 1
The Amazon Smart Plug is the fastest Alexa setup experience you can buy. But at $24.99 with no energy monitoring, is it still worth it in 2026?
Overview
I plugged this in and Alexa found it before I even opened the app.
That is not an exaggeration. I have my Echo Dot in the same room and the Amazon Smart Plug appeared in my Alexa device list automatically within about 30 seconds of plugging it in.
That kind of zero-friction setup is what Amazon built this for. If you are already in the Alexa ecosystem, this plug is the fastest way to add a smart outlet to your home.
There is no Kasa app. No Govee app. No third-party login. Just Alexa. You plug it in and it works.
The tradeoff is that it only works with Alexa. No Google Home, no Apple HomeKit, no Matter support. If you want cross-platform compatibility, the Kasa KP125M we ranked number one in our best smart plugs guide is the better buy at the same price.
But if Alexa is your world and simplicity is the goal, nothing else at this price delivers it faster.
Key Features:
Automatic Alexa discovery: The plug pairs with Alexa so smoothly that it often appears in your device list without you doing anything. No app scanning, no QR code, no separate account. Just plug in and it is ready.
Compact single-outlet design: The plug is small enough that it leaves the second outlet on your wall plate completely free. On a power strip it does not crowd adjacent sockets either. Small detail but it matters constantly.
Scheduling and routines through Alexa: Set schedules, timers, and full Alexa routines entirely through the Alexa app or voice commands. You can say "Alexa, turn off the lamp at 11pm every night" in plain language and it handles the rest.
Away mode for security: Randomizes on and off cycles to make your home look occupied when you are out. Works through the Alexa app and requires no subscription to use.
Automatically reconnects after outages: If your power or WiFi drops, the plug reconnects to Alexa on its own when everything comes back. No manual re-pairing required.
Works with Alexa Plus for advanced routines: With Alexa Plus you can set up routines in plain conversational language. Tell Alexa what you want your home to do and it builds the automation for you.

TP-Link Kasa EP25 4-Pack ($29.99)
Four plugs for $29.99 with energy monitoring and both Alexa and Google Home support. If you want more coverage and the ability to track power usage, the Kasa pack delivers dramatically more value at just $5 more. The only reason to choose the Amazon plug over this is if pure Alexa simplicity and auto-discovery matter more to you than features.
Kasa KP125M Matter Smart Plug ($24.99)
Same price, Matter certified, energy monitoring included, works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and SmartThings simultaneously. If you ever might switch platforms or use multiple ecosystems, the KP125M is the smarter buy at an identical price point.
Our take: The Amazon Smart Plug wins on one thing only and it wins it completely. Alexa auto-discovery and zero-friction setup. For everything else, the Kasa options beat it at the same price.
Price
Standard price: $24.99 on Amazon
Sale price: Drops to $13 to $15 during Prime Day, Black Friday, and random Amazon promotional events. It has one of the more frequent discount histories of any Amazon device.
If you are not in a rush and do not mind waiting, setting a price alert for around $14 is worth it. At that price it is genuinely hard to argue against for Alexa users.
